A Dog of a Contest
Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 10:27AM
I dozed off watching reruns and had a dream about licking the faces of two-thirds of the cast of Charmed. It’s four o’clock in the morning now, and my thoughts keep drifting to rubbing up against their legs. I think that’s much healthier, right?
A few people I've heard from have forgotten how this works, so I'd thought I'd reprise a few key points:
1) YOU HAVE AN ART CONTEST? Yup. SUBSCRIBE to the Not-So-Daily Dog newsletter and you're in it. (If you're already getting the email, you're in.) You'll get a chance to win one of three pieces of original art from the book, or even a brand-new, frame-it-and-show-your-mama original sketch from me! And if you forward the newsletter to someone else, and they sign up, you'll receive an additional entry. (They'll be entered too; fair is fair). All this just for not unsubscribing!
If you do unsubscribe, your entry to the contest will also be voided, but then again, if probably weren't interested in the art in the first place, nor in the feelings of the artist, who is, despite his size, a delicate flower. (If you want to be dropped from the email but choose to subscribe to the RSS feed, just send a email with the heading “Switching to RSS”, and your entry(ies) will be preserved.)
2) CAN I GET MY DOG IN THE BOOK? Yes, please. Email your photos to dailydog@seltzerstudio.com, and if your dog is chosen (an entirely arbitrary process), I'll sketch your pet and feature the drawing in the book. In return, you will receive a high-level resolution file of the drawing and the author's eternal gratitude.
3) WHAT IF MY DOG'S IN THE BOOK BUT YOU HAVEN'T SENT ME A FILE? Whoops. Sorry, sorry. Just remind me. Send an email, write a note, give me a call. My memory is not a point of pride with me. But be gentle with your rebukes, please. I am, as mentioned above, a delicate flower.
4) SO GETTING MY DOG IN THE BOOK ISN'T THE CONTEST? DON'T YOU THINK IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SMARTER TO HAVE A DOG DRAWING CONTEST IN THE FIRST PLACE? Yes, it would have. But I didn't think of it. I didn't even think of having people send in dog photos for the first 10-12 entries of this megilleh.
5) WE THINK YOU SHOULD HAVE A DOG DRAWING CONTEST. Ahem. So I've heard from a few people, in great detail and at great length. So if people would prefer a contest about dog drawings, email or comment on the blog, and I'd consider rejiggering the contest. Instead of just three winners, maybe everyone who has a dog drawn in the book could win the original art. Just a thought...
I'm very fond of this week's drawing. And also this week's dog, who is named Tator Tot, and comes your way from Jennifer Smith.
That's it for now. Hope you had a happy Thanksgiving.
